End of Week 5 – Weekly Update

This week in KG1A, the students focused on the letter Ee.  We listened to the story Elmer the Patchwork Elephant by David McKee about a little elephant that looks a little different from the rest of his elephant friends.  Elmer discovers that when he disguises himself using grey berries to ‘blend in’ with the other elephants, they no longer recognize him! It’s only when it begins to rain, and the grey paint that Elmer has covered himself with starts to disappear, that Elmer’s ‘true colors’ are revealed, much to the surprise and delight of his friends, who preferred his multicolored and fun loving persona. Following their happy reunion, the elephants reassure Elmer that they love him because of his differences, and not in spite of them, and they celebrate by painting themselves in multi-colored paint, in recognition of Elmer’s unique appearance and personality.

The students all recreated their very own Elmer the Elephant, using multi-colored paper, paint, glue and their handprints!

From top to bottom: Scarlett, William, Busra, and Chai show off their version of Elmer the Elephant!

The students do not have homework assigned for this week, however please feel free to review and ask your son/daughter questions about the letters Aa-Ee, their shapes, the number 13 and the color yellow.  They learned all about those this week!

Next week, we will be continuing the Pockets chapter “Clothes For All Weather”, working with the letter Ff and Gg, the color green, the number 14, rectangles, and number recognition for 10-15.
