The importance of playdough.

Squishing, rolling, sculpting, molding… children love to play with playdough.  With playdough children use their imaginations and strengthen the small muscles –  the same muscles they will one day  use to hold a pencil and write.  Creating with playdough let children feel competent (“I’m good at rolling the dough”) and proud of their accomplishments (“Hey, I made a snake”)!

KG 1B’s project, “The Big School Bus”.

Art activities coupled with reading projects have compound benefits, since they not only promote development in artistic abilities, but also developments in story visualization, and recall.

We read the story of “The Big School Bus” and asked questions about the characters and the setting of the story.  I instructed the students to create their scene based on the story by colouring their bus, gluing pictures of their classmates onto the bus, tearing pieces of coloured paper, and gluing it to the white background.

The students used their creativity and imagination well by producing a fun and artistic activity.  The students also worked on their listening skills and took details from the story and created their own artwork.  They did a great job by presenting their buses to the rest of the class!

Being Healthy.

Why children need to play outside:  it builds up their immune system, it provides exercise, it stimulates their imagination, it promotes problem solving skills, and it provides Vitamin D.

Healthy food choices are essential to help children grow, develop, feel good, and do well academically.
