Welcome Back, KG1A!

Welcome back, KG1A students and parents!  I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun-filled Songkran holiday break.  It is hard to believe, but we are just six short weeks away from the last day of school!  Here is a quick overview of what we will be covering for the remainder of the semester:

  • English: Concluding “Foods We Like”, Reviewing “At the Fair” and “Our Senses”
  • Phonics:  Progressing with Letters Vv-Zz, and then a review of all ABCs
  • Mathematics: Weight, capacity, comparing/matching sets, and a review of all of our numbers 1-20

During our discussion of “The Sky”, the students made beautiful starry night paintings!  Here is Scarlett, Peeranut, and Ghayda showing off theirs.

I will be conducting informal progress assessments for each child at the beginning of this week to check how everyone is coming along.  From there, we will be able to tailor the instruction given to each child to make sure he/she is hitting all of the learning markers for the KG1 level.   They are such an intelligent bunch!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via the communication book or in person.  I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Student of the Month: Esad!

For the month of March, Esad was the Student of the Month for KG1A!  Esad is a wonderful student, and is always kind to his friends.  He is a joy to have in class, and we are so proud of him!  Throughout the month, he has continued to be an excellent model for the other students.  Congratulations again, Esad!

Fun Day!

We had a really wonderful time at Fun Day!  Thank you for your support and participation in this great event.  All the children had a wonderful time on the bouncy castle, with the clown, and at all the different games that the KG teachers prepared for them.  Below are a few pictures of KG1A enjoying the day!

Weekly Overview Week 6

Dear Parents,

As you know, next Friday, 28 February is Fun Day!  We are really looking forward to Fun Day, as it should be another wonderful opportunity for the parents and students to spend memorable time together.  If you have not yet returned the form to indicate whether or not you will be attending, please do so and return it with your child Monday, 24 February.

In addition, next Saturday, 1 March, will be Parent-Teacher Conference Day at PAIS. If you will be attending Fun Day the morning of 28 February and would like to schedule your Parent-Teacher Conference for Friday afternoon, I am offering time slots to do so.  Otherwise, please indicate the time you would like to see me on Saturday morning. You can choose a 15 minute time-slot.   Please see your child’s communication book for a listing of the times available.  I will alert you of your scheduled time on Wednesday, 26 February, so please check your child’s communication book on that day!

This week, the student’s homework is to “read” the story “The Bathing Suit” to someone at home.  They should work with someone at home to talk about what they see happening in the pictures.  This works on their storytelling, memory, and sequential ordering skills.  They also have a tracing worksheet for letters Ff and Gg, which were our letters of the week.  Next week, we will be finishing the Pockets chapter “Clothes For All Weather”, working with the letter Hh and Ii, the color blue, the number 15, ovals, and patterns.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! As always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all!  In celebration, KG1A students made something special for their parents — a valentine heart painted using their feet! The reverse of the valentine, each child wrote his/her name and the following Valentine’s Day message:

From the bottom of my heart to the tip of my toes…I LOVE YOU!

End of Week 5 – Weekly Update

This week in KG1A, the students focused on the letter Ee.  We listened to the story Elmer the Patchwork Elephant by David McKee about a little elephant that looks a little different from the rest of his elephant friends.  Elmer discovers that when he disguises himself using grey berries to ‘blend in’ with the other elephants, they no longer recognize him! It’s only when it begins to rain, and the grey paint that Elmer has covered himself with starts to disappear, that Elmer’s ‘true colors’ are revealed, much to the surprise and delight of his friends, who preferred his multicolored and fun loving persona. Following their happy reunion, the elephants reassure Elmer that they love him because of his differences, and not in spite of them, and they celebrate by painting themselves in multi-colored paint, in recognition of Elmer’s unique appearance and personality.

The students all recreated their very own Elmer the Elephant, using multi-colored paper, paint, glue and their handprints!

The students do not have homework assigned for this week, however please feel free to review and ask your son/daughter questions about the letters Aa-Ee, their shapes, the number 13 and the color yellow.  They learned all about those this week!

Next week, we will be continuing the Pockets chapter “Clothes For All Weather”, working with the letter Ff and Gg, the color green, the number 14, rectangles, and number recognition for 10-15.

I hope you all have a fantastic long weekend! As always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
